The importance of kindness is best expressed by Mother Theresa’s quote, “Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier.” Random acts of kindness can seem like a small thing for you, but can really make a difference in someone else’s day.

Have you ever been given a compliment that made you happy? Or maybe you’ve received a seemingly random message from a friend or loved one that you haven’t spoken to in a while that really helped improve your day. Sometimes, all we need to feel better about ourselves and our lives is just a little attention and affection, so I hope these little acts of kindness will help you bring more love and happiness to the lives of the people around you!

Compliment a Stranger

The easiest way to bring acts of kindness into your daily life is to simply give genuine compliments to strangers. In my opinion, positive compliments should be like dandelions – able to bloom anywhere and everywhere.

Your compliments can be as small as “I really like your shirt” or as big as “I think you’re an incredible person and getting to meet you today has really brought happiness into my day.” I’ve never met a person who didn’t enjoy a thoughtful compliment or a word of genuine praise, so don’t be nervous to give out your compliments freely (even to strangers)!

While giving a compliment will cost you nothing, it can really change the mood of someone else for the better.

Bring Your Coworker a Treat

Not all acts of kindness have to be done randomly or towards someone you don’t know – improving the moods of people you see every day can be an incredibly gratifying experience. Plus, there’s nothing better than a small gift “just because.”

If you’re feeling a little gracious today when you’re on your morning coffee run or getting a sweet treat for yourself, consider doubling your order and bringing something back to one of your coworkers. Whether it’s someone having a bad day or just a coworker you really like talking to, they will appreciate the small moment of kindness that shows them they are appreciated.

Everyone wants to know someone is looking out for them and cares about them, so bringing someone a treat just to say you appreciate them can be a great way to bring joy into someone’s day.

Text a Loved One to Say You Miss Them

Acts of kindness don’t have to be expensive – many can cost you nothing at all! While complimenting a random stranger is a great, free way to spread happiness, texting someone you love just to say you miss them will spread more joy into their life than you may realize.

Sometimes we can grow busy in our daily lives and forget to check in on our friends, especially ones we don’t see or talk to every day. So if you have a moment of free time, consider reaching out to a friend or family member you haven’t talked with in a while. It doesn’t have to be a long conversation – just taking the time to say you care about them and hope they’re doing well can work wonders for someone’s mood.

Not only will this show your loved one that you’re thinking about them, but it can also help you reconnect with someone you may have drifted away from.

Hand Out Random Gifts

Little Acts of KindnessThis is kind of a strange option for encouraging acts of kindness, but in the past, I’ve found that having small gifts to hand out to strangers, classmates, and friends can be a fun way to bring light into someone’s day!

For example, when I was in college I used to carry around a fanny pack with stickers on days when I just wanted to bring a little happiness into people’s lives. I would go to my classes and give them to my classmates or I would hand them to my friends if I saw them in passing. I already collected stickers, so the gifts themselves didn’t cost me anything, but the act of giving them to others not only improved my friends’ day but mine, too!

Maybe your gift could be stickers like mine, or possibly candy or other fun little trinkets. Whatever it is, small gifts can be a great way to spread love and appreciation to the people around you!

Recite Positive Affirmations to Yourself

Little acts of kindness don’t have to just be for others – they can be for yourself too! It’s important to remember that you should be as kind to yourself as you are to the people around you. One easy way to do this is to recite positive affirmations when you need a little kindness in your life.

No matter how your day is going, always remember these five things: you are worthy of love, you are more than enough, you are important to the people around you, you are doing your best, and you deserve all the happiness.

When you’re being kind to others, don’t forget to sprinkle in a little kindness for yourself to remind you that you are important!

Write a Positive Review or Supportive Comment

For those who use the internet frequently to post online, read stories, or look up recipes and fun ideas, one of the best ways you can encourage little acts of kindness is to write a positive review or supportive comment! The person on the other side of the screen reading your kind thoughts is sure to have a brighter, better day after hearing what you have to say.

As someone who writes and posts online, I always appreciate hearing from others how my articles and words have helped them or made them happy. So if you are invested in something you read or tried a new recipe or DIY that worked well, make sure to tell the author! It will definitely make their day.

Tell Someone You Love Them

Acts of kindness don’t have to be complex or planned far in advance – they can also just be adding an extra three words into your vocabulary. Everyone wants to be loved and appreciated, so simply saying, “Hey, I love you” or “I care about you” can bring so much joy into someone’s life.

Love is a beautiful thing, and whether that love comes from a romantic partner, a friend, or a family member, being told by someone that they love you can brighten your day more than you may realize.

Help Someone Just Because You Can

Acts of kindness are all about bringing happiness into someone’s life and showing them that they are loved and appreciated, so helping someone just because you can is a great way to remind someone that they are cared for! Whether that’s helping someone pick their things up off the floor when they drop their bag or assisting someone in need who may have gotten hurt somehow, helping people is a great way to spread kindness into their lives.

As human beings, we should all strive to be the best versions of ourselves and bring as much kindness and consideration into each other’s lives as we can. So make sure to love loudly and spread your kindness as far as you can – it will make everyone’s day better and brighter than it was before!
