According to the international research made by Harvard Business School in 2015, kids benefit more from the working Mom rather than from a hyper-caring stay-at-home Mom! I bet you are surprised!

Yes, unfortunately, a certain image of the perfect Mom has dug its heels into our consciousness. No one can judge others for building the certain family model. Still, it’s crucial to understand that all women have the right to work, build their career, and still be good mothers for their children. By the way, in Irene Kot blog you will find plenty of information that will help you to look at the world from different angles. Plus, there are dozens of handy tips that were brainstormed due to the personal experience!

Your Child Becomes Flexible

A working Mom is a busy woman. She has to deal with plenty things at the same time, thinking about even more deals simultaneously. In the morning, you can be late. On the weekends, you might have to work and ask your Mom to look after your kids.

Though you might consider it as a lack of attention, your kid learns to be flexible. He starts understanding that the life can change our plans and it’s we who have to adjust to it.

I don’t encourage you to work 24/7 forgetting to attend kid’s premiere in the school theater. Still, you should understand what lessons your child can learn while you are earning money and building your career.

Your Kid Faces Economical Lessons

When your child sees that you work, it definitely asks itself a question “Why do you have to work?” and you should get a clear explanation.
You work to contribute to the family budget, to the expenses that bring you together on weekends, to the Christmas gifts, and trips in summer. The kid starts understanding where the money comes from. It sees that it’s not that easy to earn the money.

Plus, your children will learn that a perfect family model is the one when all members support each other and try to deal with problems and difficulties together. A Mom supports father and earns the money and a Dad gives a Mom time to draw a breath and washes the dishes tonight.

You Contribute to the Quality of the Spent Time

According to the study made by Journal of Marriage and Family in 2015, children tend to spend the same amount of time with their mothers regardless of whether they work or not. It’s all about the quality of the spent time. When you work, you appreciate every minute of time spent with your children and try to spend it as cool as it’s possible.

When you spend 100% of your time, you don’t value it as much. Just imagine if you ate your favorite dish every day. You would definitely take it for granted and wouldn’t enjoy it so much.

Your Kid Becomes a Good Planner

Just because you don’t spend every free minute with your child, I can call your spent time the “Mommy dates”. It doesn’t sound cruel. It’s a perfect way to teach your child to plan! Ask it to plan your time: when it will happen, how long it will last, what will you do, where you will go, etc.

Every time your kid will do it, it will strengthen a very healthy habit to plan everything ahead.

Your Children Become Independent

I left this point for last on purpose. What does independence mean for you? I think it’s a key term when we talk about human’s freedom. Freedom inspires. Freedom helps us to do what we want and be happy.

Kid’s independence begins with the small things. Today it has to iron the clothes independently. Tomorrow it will write an essay independently. The next month it will decide what kind of sport it will do. Independently, again.

Don’t be afraid of teaching your child to be independent. It will facilitate its life in future. It will help to make its own decisions. And it’s so cool!

I hope that you will set aside all doubts and fears and start dealing with things that bring you joy. If you want to work, you should work. As a Mom, you will always find time to spend it with your child but the lessons it will learn are priceless!

    1. Kathy, thank you for your comment. I believe that there are both benefits of working and stay-at-home moms as it depends on your inner state and the quality time you are ready to spend with your kids.
