We live in a society that loves to celebrate holidays, dates, and milestones. There’s a special day, month, or holiday dedicated to just about anything! We love to celebrate. A lot of times, I think we use those special markers to remind us of how important that thing is.

Sometimes, though, not celebrating can be a sign that things are not only good, but as they should be.

Actress Kristen Bell (famous for her role as Anna in Frozen as well as the TV show The Good Place and Veronica Mars) and husband Dax Shepard admitted on Instagram the other day that both of them completely forgot their wedding anniversary.

That’s right, both of them.

The actress shares that the only reason they realized it was because her grandmother sent them a text message that day saying, “Happy Anniversary!”

Bell and Shepard have been married for six years now, and share daughters Lincoln, 6, and Delta, 4.

“In truth, neither of us remember which day,” she says. “That’s because we have been living the celebration of our commitment every moment since.”

“I find when you are living with gratitude each moment, the dates become irrelevant,” she goes on to say. “To get to wake up next to someone who has put hard work, respectful fights, patience, understanding and gratitude into your relationship is the definition of love.”

Bell says marrying Shepard was the “best decision” she’s ever made, and also admits that she will never celebrate the actual day of their wedding. “I will never remember the date of our anniversary @daxshepard, and i know you won’t either,” she wrote. “And that’s just one more thing i love about us.”

Whether or not you feel the same way about celebrating your wedding anniversary, you’ve got to admit: this is special, and spot-on. Marriage is a daily celebration of the commitment you make with your partner. If you can find joy in every day, in both the menial and meaningful tasks, then you’re living a relationship worthy of celebration.
